"Crisis recovery" procedure |
If for any reason the BIOS becomes corrupt (for example a power cut during the flash process), the PC may no longer be able to boot. In this situation it is still possible to recover the BIOS using a special procedure known as "crisis recovery".
| To recover the BIOS in "crisis" mod |
1
Obtain an empty diskette
Obtain an empty diskette. It does not have to be a system diskette.
2
Create a crisis diskette
Copy the BIOS ROM file (example JA0100US.ROM) to the diskette. Do not copy any other files. Rename the file AMIBOOT.ROM make sure you have the exact same spelling.
3
Set motherboard switch
Remove the power cord from the PC, open the cover, and set switch 7 on the motherboard (labelled "BIOS recovery") to the ON position. Close the cover and reinsert the power cord.
4
Start the flash
Insert the diskette in the floppy drive.
Switch on the PC.
5
Wait
The PC will beep once and the boot process will start automatically. The screen will remain blank, but there will be activity on the floppy drive.
DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE PC DURING FLASH.
6
Set motherboard switch and reboot
Once complete, the PC will emit a long continual beep. Switch off the PC, remove the diskette and reset switch 7 to the OFF position. The PC should now boot normally.
